Building village and gardens
The beginning of 1999 marked the start of the construction of the Historic Village. Today´s location used to be a dumping ground of Ostra. Our first task was to transport five-hundred tons of soil which could be used to cover the original dumping place as well as to form the whole space of the Historic Village.
Next, we built a stone road in a shape of ellipsis which goes around the Historic Village. After the completion of electricity and water supply, we proceeded to the construction of the actual buildings and summer houses which form the base of today´s Historic Village.
We wanted to make maximum use of local and recycled materials, therefore we used mainly wood and stone gained from the demolished sugar factories in Lysa nad Labem and Nymburk. In designing the Historic Village we were inspired by old gravure images. Nevertheless the Village does not copy any particular historical design or aspire to be maquette of a village from a certain historical period. Most of the buildings including the largest one – the dining hall – were built in 1999. The Village started full operation in 2000.
In the following years, we continued to expand the Historic Village. Another two-storey building was built which now provides a space for demonstration of traditional trades. Other houses – pub or printing office – we built later.
